Christmas Tree Craft Freebie

Only 8 more days to shop for this holiday season. Hope everyone is ready and already has everything under their tree. I am not one of those people. I really don't know why I can't be. It's not like I don't know the holiday is coming and just around the corner. It's the same day every year. I'm one of those mad dash shoppers staying up to wee hours in the morning wrapping and getting everything ready!! I have a few more things to buy and I'll be done, hopefully!!
Having a great week this week at school. I think it is because I see
 Christmas break drawing near!!
The kids are having a blast counting down the days with our
Santa Countdown sheet I fixed up.They love to put their cottonball on as soon as they get in the room!
We also have been  busy this week with other Christmas crafts. I read the story
A Wish to be a Christmas Tree by Colleen Monroe is such a wonderful story. This is one of my favorites. You've got to make this one a part of your collection. If you don't have the book, there is also a read along on youtube that you can watch. I did both with my class. They really took to heart about how the animals came together to help and decorate the old pine tree.

Here is a sheet that I fixed up for the students. I gave them a tree to take home and decorate. I've done this before in the past, but this time to go along with the story, they could only decorate with things from the forest or outside just like the animals did in the story. Leaves, berries, grass, etc... I can't wait to see what they come up with. I will be sure to post the pics when they come in.

Thanksgiving Freebie

The Thanksgiving season is approaching us and it has us start thinking about what is important in our lives and the things we are most thankful for. Mine is my family...

What are you thankful for this season?? I have my little firsties do a writing project each year about what they are thankful for. We have a yearly Thanksgiving lunch at our school. After lunch, we invite the families  to our classroom and I let the students read to their family what they are thankful for and we sing a few Thanksgiving songs for them. The parents just love this!!!

I wanted to share it with you..

I also wanted to share a few videos that I will be showing this week in our Thanksgiving lesson.

This one is so cute!! It explains what the first Thanksgiving was all about on a child's level.

I also love this story by David Milgrim called Thank You Thanksgiving.  In this story, a little girl goes on a last-minute errand for her mother. Along the way, she thanks all the familiar things that she loves. And when she gets home from her errand, her family thanks her for what she has brought.  It leaves no doubt about how much there is in this world to be thankful for.

The last video is one I use to get a little exercise going in our classroom.
Let's get PHYSICAL!!!

A great way to get the kids moving !!!
This cute song is by Harry Kindergarten Music . Cute, cute, cute!!!

WE HOPE EVERYONE HAS A WONDERFUL THANKSGIVING !!!!!

Pumpkin Taste Testing Freebie

Pumpkins here-pumpkins there- pumpkins, pumpkins everywhere. Hey everyone we had a busy week last week, but it was SO MUCH FUN. Let's take a look back at our fun-filled events. We have been talking all about pumpkins - the life cycle of a pumpkin- and stages-we even carved a pumpkin and the students got to scoop out the seeds with their hands- it was great!!  We called him Petey the Pumpkin. We had some first timers in our class- they loved it!!!   The last activity with pumpkins we did was on Thursday with our pumpkin taste testing party.  We taste tested 4 kinds of foods that have pumpkin as an ingredient- you know at first I had the little miniature candy corn pumpkins and some large marshmallows that were shaped like pumpkins- but when I looked at the ingredients pumpkin was not anywhere- so I had to go hunting in our local grocery store and found a pre-made pumpkin pie, pumpkin bread and pumpkin cookies. I found a bag of pumpkin seeds at the local Dollar General.

After we tasted tested our pumpkin foods we graphed them on a big graph for our room and we also completed a bar graph practice sheet that went along with our lesson.

You can download    this         Freebie Here .
                                                       Have Fun and Enjoy

We're Off to Find The Witch's House

Halloween is next week and I know that every teacher is getting out that stack of seasonal books that they read every year. You probably have this book in your stack, but just in case you don't, you've got to get it. This is one of my FAV!!

We're Off to Find the Witch's House  by Mr.Kreib has become a
a staple in my room every year. If you are looking to get the little ones in the Halloween mood, but don’t want to scare them to pieces, this is a cute story with great illustrations by R.W. Alley.
This book contains lots of repetition, alliteration, word rhyming and just enough light-hearted spookiness to get the little ones in the spirit without scaring the heck out of them. ;)

Of course I had to find a craft with this book. Already bought my lunch sacks for this one. They are going to have so much fun. And what a mess it will be. The kids always go heavy on the glue. Think I might try puff paint or something, Do they even make that anymore???
If you don't want to go glue crazy, then here is a
haunted house printable for you to do.

I love how the book has rhyming words all throughout. As we listen to the story, I have the students listen for the rhyming words has we go through the book. We talk it out in class and discuss it together. I also let them try to come up with other words that rhyme with words in the book. I like to show this video- Rhyme Time before reading the book. Great intro for the lesson if you want to create the hook or a great closure. We love to clap and sing with this video.

My firsties are all about rhyming words.
They can come up with some crazy and wonderful words. I use this sheet to go along with this book and activity.
   Get it here

What books do you like to read during this Halloween season?
What are your class favorites? We would love suggestions!!!

Pirate Noun Scavenger Hunt

ARRRRRR you ready to find nouns????

The most fun the students had was doing the nouns scavenger hunt. We pretended we were pirates looking for nouns. I played this music as we went around the room.

This fit well with Halloween just around the corner. We have watched this several times since. The class went around the room with their pirate noun worksheet, a FREEBIE for you. Click on the worksheet to download.

I've Been Boooed!

ZooBoo Fun!!

We had the best time this weekend. We went to ZooBoo at the Memphis zoo. We had such a great time.

They had a hayride, not-so scary haunted trail, trick or treat stations to get candy, camel rides, creatures of the night exhibit, and so much more. We had a blast!!! I think the grownups had more fun than the kids did.

My son loved the fortune teller, you know she was so spot on after I filled out that questionnaire. She did such a great job. The kids fell for it hook, line, and sinker. My daughter kept asking me all night how did she know all that stuff about me.

One of the coolest things in the zoo were these buckets they had all around the park decorated by local school kids. They did a really good job. The theme was all about recycling and this year they recycled plastic buckets. They did such a neat job.

How cool are those!!!!! Hope you're having a good week. Last week was fall break and it is going to be so hard this week getting back into it. FALL BREAK COME BACCCCCCCK!!

I have noticed that the more days you are off, the harder it is to jump back in. Hope everyone is getting ready for Halloween. You only have one more weekend to find that costume. Check out our TPT store to find a great Halloween lesson.

HAVE A GREAT WEEK!!!!

Parent Teacher Conference Freebie

This is my favorite time of the year. The season starts to change. Not too hot and not too cold. Halloween is just around the corner. My son loves Halloween. I think it's because his birthday is October 27. He will be 11 years old this year. I love this age with him. He's getting into that cool stage but yet he still wants to be around mom and the family. I better live it up now. I know that will change in a few years. I love decorating the house for the fall and seeing all the beautiful orange and greens around. The smell of pumpkin in the air, and our annual trip to the pumpkin patch. You just can't beat it!!  We just had our spirit week this week and wanted to show you our school spirit.

What this season also brings about is Parent Teaching Conference. Ours is next week and we are gearing up for it. I wanted to share a document that I use as a reminder of our PTC. Another good thing to do is schedule times to meet with parents. This is always helpful when talking to parents. I know which parent is coming and what time so I can get everything ready for that student. It also lets me  know who is not coming so they know that they will be hearing from me either by phone or another meeting.  I always try to talk to each child's parent because I know that it is important to keep the communication lines open at all times and let parents know the progress that their child is making. I also know that parents are busy people and sometimes it's hard to come see me when you have other kids to take care of and other teachers to go see. One night is not enough, so a simple phone call will do the trick in most cases.

I put 3 on one sheet to save paper. We've got to save the trees some days. Hope you find this helpful. Hope you are having a wonderful week so far!!!
