Mini Marshmallow Math for the Classroom

Ms. Kristy's class has been having a blast with math all week using edible manipulatives. Each student made their own little addition booklet then practiced estimation with guess and check marshmallow fun- they even used colored/flavored mini marshmallows to practice with bar graphing and tally graphs- the students just loved the all week mini marshmallow activities-

  3. Mmmm! Anytime you can sneak some food into an activity, it is just that much better, isn't it?!! How fortunate for your students to have such creative teachers!

    1. Thank you.We try to find cheap ways to bring something different in. It usually only take one bag of marshmallows for a lesson. So for about $1.00 a bag. You can't beat it.

  4. I love this idea. Sometimes all it takes to make a concept stick in a student's head is something out of the ordinary like marshmallows! I think as soon as I can dig myself out of my driveway through the snow, I will be heading to the store to find some new ideas for edible manipulatives! Thanks for the motivation - my students will be thanking you without realizing it as well!

    1. I can't imagine having snow like that. We get an inch and we get excited. We only get out for severe weather and flooding in Tennesse. The kids love it when we get to use the marshmallows. I usually use the colored mini marshmallows during spring time for our graphing review.

    1. The kids really enjoy using these cheap and "fun the eat" manipulatives. When food is involved, they seem to really pay more attention. Go figure!
